Even Tougher
The 2015 Ford F-150 is the strongest and most durable F-150 ever. Before it goes on sale, it will have been torture-tested in labs, at Ford proving grounds and in the hands of some of Ford's most demanding truck customers for more than 10 million miles.

The grueling testing simulated the demands Ford's customers will subject the truck to throughout its average lifetime. The tests include crisscrossing the country pulling heavy trailers and hefty loads through the desert valleys and over high-altitude mountain passes-in temperatures from 20 degrees below zero to 120 degrees Fahrenheit.

Customer using the F-150 for construction, mining and utilities have tested and helped prove out its high-strength aluminum-alloy cargo box.

A disguised new Ford F-150 even raced in the Baja 1000, where it earned the distinction of completeing all 883 grueling miles while some other purpose-built race vehicles could not.

To perform in these challenging conditions, the frame uses high-strength steel rated up to 70,000 psi--stronger than the steel found in some competitors' heavy-duty pickup truck frames. Eight through-welded crossmembers provide increased stiffness, while staggered rear outboard shocks provide greater stability.

Even Smarter
Several groundbreaking new productivity features debut in the all-new F-150, including many class-exclusives. They include:

*360-degree camera view, using exterior cameras to create a bird's-eye view of the truck to help the driver park, maneuver in tight spots and navigate down narrow roads and trails.

*Integrated loading ramps, which enable easy loading of ATV's, motorcycles and mowers.

*BoxLink, which is a combination of metal brackets and custom cleats used to secure a variety of accessories in the cargo box, from ramps to storage bins to bed dividers.

*LED headlamps and taillamps, which provide excellent nighttime visibility.

*Trailer hitch assist, a new rear view camera feature that adds a dynamic line based on steering wheel angle in the display to help customers line up truck and trailer without requiring a spotter or having to get out of the vehicle.

*Smart trailer tow module, using an all-new smart trailer tow wiring harness that helps identify and inform the driver of potential trailer connectivity issues, burned or unlit trailer marker lamps, and brake light and trailer battery faults.

*Remote tailgate, allowing for the tailgate to be locked, unlocked and released with the key fob--eliminating manual locking and increasing convenience and security. The tailgate is also damped, dropping down, hands-free, to a flat position when opened.

*High-wattage power outlets (400 watts, 110 volts) in the cab, allowing drivers to easily charge corded tools, battery chargers or or mobile devices on-site or while driving.

*LED spotlights on sideview mirrors, which provide powerful, durable and bright lighting around the truck exterior.

*Latest EcoBoost technology in an all-new, even more efficient 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine that features extremely high output and lightweight design.

*Next-generation tailgate step, which is now fully integrated inside the tailgate and virtually invisible when not in use.

Other smart innovations include:
*New 8-inch LCD productivity screen in the instrument panel, which includes updated truck apps--from fuel economy to towing tips--and the ability to create a customized home screen for customers to access their most frequently used apps in one place.

*LED lighting embedded in the walls of the cargo box, which brightly illuminates the box interior to help customers quickly find tools or other items.

*Rear under-seat storage in F-150 Super and Crew cabs, providing hidden storage for valuables. Two storage bins are also located underneath the rear seats.

*Boxside step, no available for the short 5.5-foot box.

They join available driver aids, including SYNC with MyFord Touch, hill start assist, MyKey, rear view camera, reverse sensing, trailer brake controller and extendable tailgate step.

More Capable
In addition to helping customers work smarter, F-150 features segment-first technologies that automatically assist drivers. They include:

*Second-row inflatable safety belts, which work like a traditional belt but include a tubular airbag that inflates in the event of a crash and distributes the force of the impact across a wider area of the pasenger's chest.

*Curve Control, which automatically provides more aggressive four-wheel braking when the truck is going into a corner too fast.

*Adaptive cruise control, allowing drivers to set a cruising speed and use radar technology to monitor traffic ahead and maintain a safe distance between vehicles.

*Lane-Keeping System, which is designed to help avert unintentional drifting of the vehicle outside the intended driving lane by automatically detecting the left-or right-hand road lane markings using a camera mounted between the windshield and interior rearview mirror.

*Blind Spot Information System with cross-traffic alert, which uses radar hidden in the taillamps to detect a vehicle entering a driver's blind spot while driving or backing up.

A range of four engines provides more power to meet almost any customer need.

A new 2.7-liter EcoBoost with standard Auto Start-Stop and a 3.5-liter V6 engine with twin independent variable camshaft timing join the proven 3.5-liter EcoBoost and 5.0-liter Ti-VCT V8. The 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine features lightweight, compact design to deliver the same power as some mid-range V8s.

Auto Start-Stop technology helps save fuel. Unlike start-stop solutions in other vehicles, this technology--specially tuned for truck customers--shuts off the engine to save fuel when the vehicle is stopped, except when towing or in four-wheel drive. The engine restarts in milliseconds when the brake is released.

Ford F-150 trucks equipped with EcoBoost engines also will benefit from standard Active Grille Shutters. Active Grille Shutters stay open when extra engine cooling is needed, such as during low-speed stop-and-go driving or while working in hot weather. They automatically close to reduce aerodynamic drag at cruising speed.

DETROIT-Ford today introduces the all-new Ford F-150, the reinvention of America's favorite truck. It is the toughest, smartest and most capable F-150 ever--setting the standard for the future of trucks.

The all-new F-150 delivers an impressive combination of power, capability and efficiency--from advanced materials that improve durability and inhibit corrosion, to faster processors that enhance driving performance, to breakthrough cargo management and towing solutions.

"F-150 is well-known for being Built Ford Tough. Now, it is both tough and smart," said Mark Fields, Ford Motor Company chief operating officer. "The all-new F-150 redefines the future of trucks, and it is yet another example of our One Ford plan producing vehicles that serve customers with a commitment to the very best quality, fuel efficiency, safety, smart design and value."

F-150 is part of the Ford F-Series truck lineup, America's best-selling truck for 37 consecutive years and America's best-selling vehicle for 32 years.

"We have a unique connection with our customers," said Joe Hinrichs, Ford executive vice president and president of The Americas. "Time and again, F-150 has delivered the tougher, smarter features they want along with the capabilities they need for work or play. We build our trucks to their high standards."

In designing the backbone of the F-150, Ford engineers improved the truck's signature fully boxed ladder frame. It is all-new with more high-strength steel than ever--making it stronger and lighter. High-strength, military grade, aluminum alloys--already used in aerospace, commercial transportation, energy and many other rugged industries--are used throughout the F-150 body for the first time, improving dent and ding resistance and also saving weight. Overall, up to 700 pounds of weight have been saved, helping the F-150 tow more, haul more, accelerate quicker and stop shorter, and contributing to efficiency.

"More than ever before, customers want a truck that is a dependable partner, mobile office and a go-anywhere workshop," said Raj Nair, Ford group vice president, Global Product Development. "To meet the needs of our truck customers, we created smart new new features and a whole new approach to using advanced materials and engines to improve capability and efficiency."
In addition, the company has committed to retain 3,750 full-time jobs at the plant--consistent with current employment levels. This includes the positions required to assemble the Ford F-150, which will continue to be built at the facility on a separate line.

"This investment and promise of a new vehicle to be built in Kansas City reinforces Ford's commitment to U.S. manufacturing and American jobs," said Mark Fields, Ford president of The Americas. "Investing in our plants, products and people is critical to Ford's ability to compete with the best in the business. Ford is committed to doing everything it takes to work with its partners, including the United Auto Workers, to remain competitive."

Kansas City Assembly Plant is the fourth North American facility Ford is retooling for production of new vehicles that are at the heart of an increasingly balanced lineup of cars, trucks and utilities. The new vehicle planned for the plant will be announced at a later date.

In planning to secure Ford's future manufacturing presence in the state, Ford worked closely with Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon and the Missouri State Legislature in passage of the 2010 Missouri Manufacturing Jobs Act. This legislation provides tax incentives for certified automotive manufacturers that commit to new investments and job retention in Missouri and suppliers who create new jobs in the state.

"Today's announcement ensures that next-generation vehicles will be built right here in Missouri, by the best workforce in the country," said Nixon. "Last year, we came together to pass the Missouri Manufacturing Jobs Act to help our state compete for the production jobs of the future. That hard work paid off. For thousands of employees at Ford's Claycomo plant, and thousands more at suppliers across Missouri, this news is a big win. We'll be building the vehciles of the future right here in the Show-Me State."

Kansas City Assembly Plant opened in 1951 and has approximately 3,750 employees. It currently produces the best-selling Ford F-150 on one shift and the award-winning Ford Escape on three crews.Louisburg Ford Bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17785507217840210921noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3595234905092450540.post-5001356370179280482011-01-04T08:19:00.000-08:002011-01-04T09:09:57.748-08:00FORD TO EXPAND FUEL-SAVING START-STOP TECHNOLOGY FROM HYBRIDS TO CONVENTIONAL CARS, CROSSOVERSDEARBORN--Ford's popular fuel-saving technology that automatically shuts off the engine when the vehicle comes to a stop--a feature found today on the Ford Fusion Hybrid and Ford Escape Hybrid and some Ford cars in Europe--will soon be added to conventional cars, crossovers and SUV's in North America.

Ford's patented new Auto Start-Stop system for gasoline engines will improve fuel economy for most drivers by at least 4 percent. The gain can be as high as 10 percent for some drivers, depending on vehicle size and usage. It can also reduce tailpipe emissions to zero while the vehicle is stationary or waiting at a stoplight. Ford has more than 244 patents for its Auto Start-Stop technology and will showcase the feature on a concept in January at the North American International Auto Show.

Auto Start-Stop is the latest example of Ford moving aggressively to bring affordable advanced fuel-saving technologies to all customers. Ford has already introduced electric power steering, dual-clutch PowerShift six-speed transmissions and other fuel-saving features as part of the company's commitment to lead or be among the leaders in fuel economy in every segment.

Ford's global Auto Start-Stop technology is smooth, quiet and seamless, and it requires no changes to the driver's behavior. In city driving when the vehicle is stopped, the engine restarts the instant the driver's foot leaves the brake pedal. When the engine is off, all of the vehicle's accessories funtion normally.

"For the drive, Ford Auto Start-Stop provides extra fuel efficiency without inconvenience, as it works completely automatically," said Barb Samardzich, Ford vice president of Powertrain engineering. "And, just like in our hybrid vehicles, the heater and air conditioner work as normal so drivers will not sacrifice comfort."

The global rollout of Auto Start-Stop is under way in Europe. The system, designed to work on both gasoline and diesel engines, is standard on the ECOnetic models of the Ford Ka and Mondeo, and is launching now on Focus, C-MAX and Grand C-MAX. The fuel-saving system debuts in North America in 2012 and eventually will be offered in all Ford's global markets.

Many North American Ford customers are already familiar with Auto Start-Stop. A similar system has been installed on more than 170,000 gasoline-electric hybrid vehicles Ford has sold since 2004. Ford is the leading domestic producer of start-stop systems. In 2011, the version of Ford's Auto Start-Stop designed for gasoline-electric powertains will be on the Escape Hybrid and Fusion Hybrid as well as the Lincoln MKZ Hybrid.

"Many of the same Ford engineers who designed the Auto Start-Stop system used on Ford and Lincoln hybrids are developing the Auto Start-Stop system for non-hybrid vehicles that will be sold around the globe," said Samardzich.

When Auto Start-Stop debuts in North America, it will be available on gasoline-powered cars and sport utilities with either a manual or automatic transmission as well as vehicles that use Ford's patented dual-clutch six-speed automatic transmission.

Ford's aggressive move to direct-injection EcoBoost engines is one of the technologies that enable the Auto Start-Stop system to work seamlesly, Samardzich said. The direct-injection system, which sprays the exact amount of fuel delivery into the precise location in the combustion chamber, helps enable extremely fast engine starts, Samardzich explained. The system debuts on four-cylinder engines and will gradually be expanded to vehicles with V6 and V8 engines.

Auto Start-Stop does not require any additional vehicle maintenance. The system uses an enhanced 12-volt automobile battery and upgraded starter motor, said Birgit Sorgenfrei, program manager for Auto Start-Stop.

"Our hybrid owenrs tell us that start-stop is one of their favorite features," said Sorgenfrei. "When the engine is off, they know they are saving fuel and reducing emissions."

The system includes a light on the dash that alerts the driver when the engine is off and a special tachometer that moves the needle to a green zone when the engine is not running.

Ford engineers are making customer comfort a priority in engineering the system. A special electric pump keeps engine coolant circulating through the heater so drivers will stay warm in cold weather, Sorgenfrei said.

"Ford's start-stop techonolgy conserves fuel and eliminates emissions at every vehicle idle opportunity once customer comfort and convenience are assured--this is good for the environment," Sorgenfrei said.

Auto Start-Stop is just the latest in a long list of fuel-saving technologies Ford has brought to market in recent years.

Ford's industry-leading suite of fuel-saving technologies include:

EcoBoost engines, which combine turbocharging, direct injection and twin independent variable camshaft timing or Ti-VCT, with downsizing to deliver outstanding fuel economy without sacrificing performance.

Improved and highly fuel-efficient TDCi turbo-diesel engines in European models with low emissions and high levels of refinement

Electric power steering, which eliminates the engine-driven hydraulic pump, lines and fluid

Six-speed transmissions, which enable engines to run more efficiently by aleays selecting the best gear for fuel economy

PowerShift dual-clutch automatic transmission, which efficiently sends the engine's power through the transmission without relying on a torque converter or hydraulic pumps

In 2011, Ford will be the only manufacturer in North America to offer four vehicles that get 40 mpg or more. Those vehicles, the Ford Fiesta, Ford Focus, Ford Fusion Hybrid and Lincoln MKZ Hybrid, are part of a dozen vehicles leading their sales segments in fuel economy, a record no other manufacturer can match.

"Ford Auto Start-Stop works so fast and so seamlessly, most drivers won't even notice it is there, though they will notice the benefits in their lower fuel bills," Samardzich said.Louisburg Ford Bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17785507217840210921noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3595234905092450540.post-33556591214055431982010-08-10T08:18:00.000-07:002010-08-10T08:33:26.904-07:002011 Explorer Safety--Strength, Technology and InnovationDEARBORN--The all-new 2011 Ford Explorer targets top safety ratings with a stiff unibody structure and a class-leading suite of active and passive safety features and technologies, plus another Ford safety innovation--the world's first second-row inflatable rear belts.

Rear seat passengers-often children or mature passengers-can be more vulnerable to head, chest and neck injuries. The new Edge is now 1 mpg better city and 2 mpg better highway--with even greater power. The standard 3.5-liter V6 engine produces 285 horsepower, best-in-class among V6 competitors and 20 more horsepower than the outgoing Edge.

"Providing class-leading fuel economy and power are two of many examples of the improved attributes customers will find in the 2011 Edge," said Elaine Bannon, Edge chief engineer. "The new Edge demonstrates how a refresh at Ford is much more than just a few tweaks. It's reworking all the elements, adding more content and improving the look and feel of the vehicle."

"The 2011 Ford Edge will deliver V6 horsepower and fuel economy the competition simply can't beat," said Amy Marentic, group marketing manager, Ford cars and CUV's. "With up to a 4 mpg advantage over the competition, Edge will give customers the best of both worlds by delivering an engaging, fun-to-drive experience without sacrificing fuel economy. Edge will deliver all this while continuing to provide customers bold, distinctive styling and revolutionary technology highlighted by the industry-first MyFord Touch system.

How 2011 Edge earned fuel economy leadership
Advanced engine technology, clever control strategies and a fuel-saving six-speed automatic transmission combine to create a powertrain that efficiently produces increased levels of power and performance with improved fuel economy. Next-generation tires are key as well.

Engineers and designers examined all aspects of the popular midsize crossover and optimized them piece by piece, system by system. This intensive approach to detail has paid dividends.

Ford improved in fuel economy more than any major automaker between 2004 and 2009, according to the EPA. The government agency rates Ford's combined car and truck fuel economy improvement at nearly 20 percent, almost double the next closest competitor.

"The key to performance gains and fuel economy with the 2011 Ford Edge is that we don't look at power and fuel economy as being mutually exclusive," said Mazen Hammoud, Edge Powertrain Calibrations manager. "Instead, we focus on optimizing every component, every system and every control in the powertrain for greater overall efficiency, enabling increased power and better performance."

Here's a quick look at some of the key reasons why the 2011 Edge delivers class-leading power and fuel economy:

Advanced Technology: New for 2011 is twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT), which allows on-the-fly adjustment to the engine's airflow for maximum efficiency. This leads to better fuel economy--approximately a 3 to 4 percent improvement from this strategy alone.

New engine hardware: The 3.5-liter V6 for 2011 Edge adds piston-cooling jets and polished valvetrain buckets and combines them with an improved intake manifold and cylinder head with increased port flow to optimize the system as a whole. The piston-cooling jets spray oil on the underside of the pistons and enable faster oil warm-up and a higher compression ratio. The polished valevetrain buckets reduce friction, which in turn aids fuel economy and also improves durability (wear) of the cam and bucket tappet. The improved intake manifold and cylinder head optimizes engine airflow.

Lower idle speed: Engine idle speed was reduced from 620-600 rpm to save fuel.

Aerodynamic optimizations: Underbody shielding and tire spoilers were added to help create a more efficient aerodynamic shape. Also, the grille openings were optimized to reduce excess airflow to the engine compartment, thus reducing drag.

Fuel shutoff: The 2011 Edge employs an aggressive deceleration fuel shutoff control system, which shuts off the engine when the customer doesn't command engine torque--such as decelerating at freeway speeds.

Battery management system: The new Edge also uses smart charging. Normally the alternator continuously charges the battery, which wastes energy. Smart charging increases the alternator output when braking or decelerating, converting the vehicle's motion energy into electric energy without using additional fuel. The recovered energy then goes to recharge the battery so that it can be used later.

Electrical load shedding: This new feature shuts off devices if they are left on with the key in the accessory position. This saves battery life and keeps the battery from going dead, aiding reliable starts.

Reliable starts: The one-touch starting in the 2011 Edge enables starts of around seven-tenths of a second with precise fuel delivery for maximum fuel economy and minimal emissions.

New tires: Both the 2011 Edge SEL and Edge Limited add next-generation 18-inch tires. Just as the new powertrain produces increased power and better fuel economy, the new tires have been engineered to provide better performance and grip while also increasing fuel economy through improved construction and compound.

"The 2011 Ford Edge adds more power and performance with better fuel economy for a better customer experience," said Bannon.
Louisburg Ford Bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17785507217840210921noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3595234905092450540.post-12374100307959280022010-06-29T07:06:00.000-07:002010-06-29T07:27:59.759-07:00Ford debuts new curve control technologySensors help slow vehicle rounding a turn to rapidly
Alisa Priddle/The Detroit News

Dearborn--For anyone who has experienced that moment of panic from rounding an exit ramp too quickly, Ford Motor Co. is offering a safety solution.

The 2011 Ford Explorer--due later this year--has an upgraded electronic stability control system to better hug the road if a driver takes a curve too quickly. Ford demonstrated its curve control technology recently.

The technology, in development for 18 months, builds on the current stability control system, using the same sensors to monitor how much the driver wants to turn, versus how much the vehicle is actually turning. If the input data determines the driver won't make the turn safely, it can slow the vehicle 10 miles per hour in a second, by cutting engine torque and applying the brakes.

In the first demonstration, with stability control but no curve control, an Explorer taking a curve at 50 mph wiped out orange cones as the rear end skidded out. Test driver and engineer Dave Messih said in real life, the car would have been on the shoulder--a mistake that can result in a rollover. In the second demonstration, with curve technology engaged, Messih took the corner at the same speed and again kept his foot off the brake. The corrective technology braked and snapped the rear into place, executing the turn seamlessly. The sensation was dramatic but not jarring.

"We all like to think we're professional drivers and don't need this," said analyst Erich Merkle, president of Autoconomy in Grand Rapids. "Even good drivers in unfamiliar territory or in severe weather could benefit from this," he said. "Putting it in a family vehicle makes sense."

Take a curve quickly contributes to 50,000 crashes a year in the United States, said Pal Mascarenas, vice president of global product engineering.

Ford's curve control will be standard on the Explorer and will be added to 90 percent of Ford's light trucks and crossovers by 2015. Eventually, it will find its way to cars, but because their lower center of gravity makes them less likely to roll over, trucks are the initial priority, said Sue Cischke, group vice president of sustainability, environment and safety engineering.

Ford's system is unique, said Ali Jammoul, chief chassis engineer. There is little incremental cost; it was developed as part of continuous improvement of stability control and no additional hardware is required.

For 2011, the Explorer switches to a car-based vehicle. Curve control is one of a raft of safety features including inflatable rear seat belts, adaptive cruise control and blind spot and cross-traffic alerts.

In 2001, problems with Firestone tires contributed to a number of Explorer rollovers that led to regulations mandating stability control. For the new Explorer, "Ford is going way overboard on safety features," Merkle said.Louisburg Ford Bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17785507217840210921noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3595234905092450540.post-31067339000281040812010-06-01T14:01:00.000-07:002010-06-01T14:24:11.155-07:00Stock Quotes, Horoscopes and More Added to Ford SYNC Cloud-Based Services; No Extra Fees AttachedDEARBORN--Horoscopes, stock quotes, movie listings and access to airlines, rental cars and hotels are just a voice command away for customers driving Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles equipped with the SYNC app Traffic, Directions and Information (TDI).

And customers did not have to inquire, purchase or upgrade anything to get this whole new set of services. About 3,700 new Super Duties were sold in April--more than double the number anticipated. Through April, F-Series' sales were up 30 percent, far outpacing the overall full-size pickup segment. Ford Truck Marketing Manager Doug Scott recently fielded questions about Ford trucks during a live chat on TheFordStory.com. Below are excerpts from those exchanges.

Q: Truck quality and performance are always major considerations. How is Ford continuing to stay ahead of the pack in this area, especially in the larger truck class?
A: Our watchword is continuous improvement in all aspects. We spend an incredible amount of time and effort analyzing customer survey feedback and conducting focus group discussions and face-to-face meetings, looking for opportunities to give our customers a better product. Additionally, at the manufacturing level, better design, CAD, CAE and a dedication to being the best have helped us achieve our current position of having the best quality in the industry. Obviously, you don't get to be the best-selling truck in America for 33 consecutive years if you aren't delivering a durable, reliable, high-quality product.

Q: I read the new Ford F-250 with the diesel engine was (averaging) 28 mgp. Is that possible?
A: The fuel economy on all models of the 2011 Super Duty is 18% better than the previous model. Some versions, such as the F-450, boast up to 40% improvement. Every day, we are hearing that customers are getting in the 20's. When we did our media drive in Arizona a few months ago, we had an 80 mile fuel economy challenge, and one journalist actually got over 34 mpg.

Q: When will we see a diesel engine in the F-150?
A: EcoBoost is going to deliver one of the main benefits offered by diesel--much improved fuel economy. In our other vehicle lines where EcoBoost is presently available, it is producing up to 20% better fuel economy.

Q: How do you feel about the new Chevy truck coming out?
A: Since they are upgrading the front suspension and the Duramax diesel, I expect that it will be a more formidable competitor than the 2010 Silverado HD. We're anxious to get our hands on one and really see what it can deliver.

Q: What are your thoughts about Chevy waiting until after Ford announced its (key performance and capability numbers) to announce theirs, trying to one-up you?
A: We are always looking to improve our F-Series products to better address the needs of our loyal customers. As we like to say around here--The Best Never Rest!

Q: I thought Dodge was bold to switch to coil springs for their 1500. What are your thoughts on that?
A: Bold, but not meeting the needs of the capability-oriented buyer who comprises the majority of today's full-size pickup customer. It shows up in their declining market share performance.

Q: Are there any plans to bring back the Lightning?
A: We're always evaluating market opportunities. Right now we're focused on maximizing our presence in 0ff-road performance with the F-150 SVT Raptor 6.2L V-8.

Q: The Raptor is a really nice looking truck. Are there any plans to make a four-door version?
A: Yes. We will offer an F-150 SVT Raptor SuperCrew for the 2011 model year.

Q: What does the future hold for the Ranger? Is a midsize truck possible?
A: No new news here. We will continue to offer the Ranger through the end of 2011.Louisburg Ford Bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17785507217840210921noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3595234905092450540.post-89007906381562063902010-05-27T12:39:00.000-07:002010-05-27T13:16:21.230-07:00

FORD vs. TOYOTA

Ford has quality Toyota can't beat!

Ford has earned more NHTSA five-star ratings than Toyota

Ford offers features such as SYNC, MyKey and EasyFuel capless filler, features Toyota doesn't offer

Ford Fusion automatic beats Toyota Camry fuel economy by two mpg highway.

2010 Ford Fusion is projected to holds its value better than the 2010 Toyota Camry

FORD vs. HONDA

Ford has quality Honda can't beat!

Ford has earned more NHTSA five-star ratings than Honda

Ford offers features such as SYNC, MyKey and EasyFuel capless filler, features Honda doesn't offer

Ford Fusion has better quality than Honda Accord and beats Accord fuel economy by three mpg highway

FORD vs. NISSAN

Ford has earned more NHTSA five-star ratings than Nissan

Ford offers features such as SYNC, MyKey and EasyFuel capless filler, features Nissan doesn't offer

Ford Fusion beats Nissan Altima fuel economy by two mpg highway

Louisburg Ford Bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17785507217840210921noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3595234905092450540.post-23910659247394448952010-02-04T08:22:00.001-08:002010-02-04T08:27:54.832-08:00Ford Announces---Receive $1000 Extra for Your Import Trade-In

Customers that currently own or lease a 1995 or newer Toyota, Honda, Lexus, Scion or Acura car, truck or SUV who trade-in or have a lease expiring by June 30, 2010 will receive $1,000 toward the pruchase or lease of an eligible new 2010 Ford car, truck or SUV. The vehicles are required to have electronic stability control, or ESC, to qualify for the award.

IIHS said electronic stability control is now standard equipment on virtually all new SUVs and three-quarters of passenger cars for the 2009 model year. ESC is standard on more than one-third of 2009 pickups.

Ford was led by the Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan midsize cars with optional ESC; the Ford F-150 pickup, Ford Edge and Ford Flex midsize sport utility vehicles; and the Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner small SUVs. The list also included the Mazda Tribute, which has the same underpinnings as the Escape and Mariner.

Ford CEO Alan Mulally argued last week in Washington that the automaker had made safety strides when he testified along with other Big Three executives seeking massive government aid.
"Every year, we're going to improve the quality, we're going to improve the fuel efficiency, we're going to improve the safety, and we're going to keep improving the productivity so we can offer the consumer the very best value," Mulally told a House committee.

Honda and its Acura unit had vehicles in nearly every category, including top-sellers such as the Honda Accord; the Honda Civic 4-door with optional ESC; and the Acura MDX and RDX midsize SUVs; and the Honda Fit with optional ESC. The Fit is the first mini-car to earn the safety award.

Volkswagen AG and its Audi brand had nine vehicles on the list, including the Volkswagen Jetta and Passat and the Audi A3, A4 and A6.

General Motors Corp. and Toyota Motor Corp. both had eight vehicles on the list. GM's included the Cadillac CTS and the Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia and Saturn Outlook large SUVs.

Toyota's top performers were the Toyota Corolla with optional ESC, Toyota RAV4, Toyota Tacoma, Toyota Tundra and Scion xB.

Using the awards, consumers can compare vehicles without having to review results from multiple tests. Automakers pay close attention to the institute's findings and frequently note positive ratings in television commercials.

The institute has advocated for an early adoption of anti-rollover technology such as ESC ahead of a government requirement for the systems by the 2012 model year.
Electronic stability control senses when a driver may lose control and automatically applies brakes to individual wheels to keep the vehicle stable and avoid a rollover. It helps motorists avoid skidding across icy or slick roads or keep control when swerving to avoid an unexpected object in the road.

IIHS said Chrysler LLC was the only major automaker that did not receive a single award. They said Chrysler could have picked up five awards if the head restraints had been improved in the Dodge Avenger and Chrysler Sebring, the Sebring convertible and the Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town and Country.

Chrysler spokesman Cole Quinnell said he could not comment on whether the head restraints might be upgraded in the future. He said Chrysler vehicles are equipped with a variety of safety features and the institute's results "are just one of the sources of information about a vehicle's crash performance."Louisburg Ford Bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17785507217840210921noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3595234905092450540.post-29687285122791234782008-10-30T13:02:00.001-07:002008-10-30T13:12:40.056-07:00In the market for a new car---try a Ford Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle! When shopping for a quality pre-owned vehicle keep Louisburg Ford in mind.
